What YTMP3 does, in one paragraph

YTMP3 takes a YouTube link and gives you back the sound as an MP3 file. That is the whole job. There is no software to install, no browser extension asking for access to every site you visit, and no “download our app for faster speeds” banner. You paste the link into the box at the top of this page, the converter reads the video, shows you the title, the channel and a preview so you can be sure it is the right upload, and then offers plain download buttons: MP3 in six bitrates from 64 to 320 kbps, the original M4A, WAV, FLAC, OGG and OPUS, and MP4 if you also want the picture.

We built yt-mp3.store because most converters in this space look alike and behave alike: a link box surrounded by fake “Download” buttons, a new tab that opens a casino page, and an MP3 labelled “320 kbps” that was made from a 128 kbps stream. We wanted the opposite — one real button per file, honest labels, and a page that tells you what you are actually getting.

How to convert a YouTube video to MP3

  1. Copy the link. In the YouTube app, tap Share under the video and then Copy link. On a computer, copy the address from the browser bar.
  2. Paste it into YTMP3. Tap the box above. On most phones the Paste button fills it for you and starts the conversion straight away.
  3. Check the preview. Tap the thumbnail to play the video inside the page. This is the moment to catch a lyric video when you wanted the live version.
  4. Save the file. Tap Download MP3. The file goes to your Downloads folder and plays in any music app.

Most links are ready in two or three seconds. Long recordings — a two-hour DJ set or a full lecture — take a little longer because the audio is converted while it downloads.

What you get from each button

Button Format Best for
Download MP3 (320–64 kbps) MP3, constant bitrate, six quality steps Music, car stereos, old MP3 players, sharing
M4A Original YouTube AAC audio, not re-encoded The untouched source on phones and Apple devices
WAV / FLAC Uncompressed PCM / lossless FLAC Editing in Audacity, DAWs and video editors
OGG / OPUS Vorbis / Opus audio Small, efficient files for Android, Linux and games
MP4 buttons Video with sound, 1080p down to 144p When you need the picture as well

An MP3 uses about 2.4 MB per minute at 320 kbps, 1.4 MB at 192 kbps and 1 MB at 128 kbps. A four-minute song at 320 kbps is around 10 MB; a one-hour podcast at 128 kbps is around 58 MB. WAV is the giant of the family at roughly 10 MB per minute, so save it for editing rather than for your phone.

You do not need to clean up the link before pasting it. The converter accepts:

  • Normal watch links: youtube.com/watch?v=…
  • Short share links: youtu.be/…
  • Mobile links: m.youtube.com/watch?v=…
  • YouTube Music links: music.youtube.com/watch?v=…
  • Shorts: youtube.com/shorts/…
  • Live replays: youtube.com/live/… (after the stream has ended)
  • Links with a timestamp (&t=95s) or a playlist tail (&list=…) — the extra parts are ignored and the full single video is converted.

What it cannot open: private videos, members-only uploads, videos removed for copyright, and live streams that are still on air. Those are locked by YouTube, and no honest converter can get past them.

Works on the device in your hand

YTMP3 is a web page, so it runs wherever a modern browser runs: Chrome and Samsung Internet on Android, Safari on iPhone and iPad, Chrome, Edge and Firefox on Windows, Safari and Chrome on Mac, and the Chrome browser on Chromebooks. Nothing is installed, so nothing needs updating and nothing runs in the background after you close the tab.

On iPhone, Safari asks once whether you want to download the file; tap Download, then find it in the Files app under Downloads. From there you can play it directly, share it to another app, or move it to a folder of your choice.

Which bitrate should you choose?

Here is the honest picture. YouTube does not store a lossless master of the song; it streams compressed audio — AAC at around 128 kbps or Opus at up to about 160 kbps. Every converter, this one included, starts from that stream. So the bitrate you pick decides how much of it is kept and how big the file is, not whether new detail appears.

  • 320 kbps (default) keeps the most headroom and is the safe “best” choice if storage doesn’t matter to you.
  • 256 or 192 kbps already hold everything the YouTube source contains, at a smaller size. 192 kbps is the sweet spot for big libraries on a phone.
  • 128 kbps is fine for casual listening and earbuds.
  • 96 or 64 kbps are made for speech — lectures, audiobooks, podcasts — where they cut the file size by two thirds without hurting clarity.

If you want zero re-encoding at all, the M4A button gives you YouTube’s own audio file untouched. WAV and FLAC unpack that same audio into formats that editing software loves; they are bigger, not better-sounding.

Safe to use

There are no pop-ups, no redirects, no notification prompts and no “allow” dialogs on this site. The only thing that downloads is the file you chose, and it downloads from yt-mp3.store itself. We do not ask for an email address, and there is nothing to sign into. If a site claiming to be YTMP3 asks you to install a “codec” or a “download manager” before you can save an MP3, close it — a converter never needs that.

YTMP3 tools

Use it for audio you are allowed to keep

YTMP3 is a tool, and like a screen recorder it can be used well or badly. Good uses include your own uploads, lectures and talks you have permission to keep, Creative Commons and public-domain recordings, royalty-free music from creators who allow downloads, and podcasts published on YouTube by people who want them heard offline. Please do not use it to copy commercial music you have not paid for. Our guide to converting YouTube to MP3 legally explains where the lines are and how to find audio that is free to save.

Frequently asked questions

Is YTMP3 free?

Yes. There is no price, no trial and no account. You paste a link, you get the file. The site is paid for by keeping it light, not by selling your data.

What quality is the MP3?

You choose: 320, 256, 192, 128, 96 or 64 kbps, all at a constant bitrate, with 320 kbps selected by default. YouTube itself streams music at roughly 128 to 160 kbps, so 192 kbps already keeps everything the source has; 320 gives maximum headroom, and the low rates save space for speech. For the untouched original, pick M4A.

Can I convert a whole playlist or channel?

No. YTMP3 works one video at a time. If you paste a link that contains &list=, the converter takes the single video the link points to and ignores the rest of the playlist.

Why does a video fail to convert?

The usual reasons are a private or members-only video, a live stream that is still running, a region-locked upload, or YouTube temporarily slowing our server. Wait a minute and try again, or try a different upload of the same track.

Where is the MP3 saved?

In your browser's Downloads location. On Android that is the Download folder, on iPhone it is Files › Downloads, and on Windows and Mac it is the Downloads folder in your user account.

Do you keep a copy of my files or my history?

No. Files are converted on the fly and streamed straight to you. Download links expire after about 10 minutes and nothing is tied to an account, because there are no accounts.
