How to use YouTube to MP3 Converter

  1. Copy the link

Paste it above. Tap the thumbnail to check it's the right version.

  3. Save the MP3

Tap Download MP3. The file goes to your Downloads folder.

Convert YouTube to MP3 in three steps

Copy the video link from YouTube (Share › Copy link), paste it into the box above, and press Convert. The converter shows the video title, channel name and length, and gives you a preview so you can confirm it is the right upload. Tap Download MP3 and the file is saved to your device. That is all — no queue, no email, no waiting room.

If you are on a phone, the Paste button reads your clipboard and starts the conversion on its own, so the whole thing is two taps after copying the link.

What actually happens to the sound

Knowing this helps you pick the right button. When you upload a video to YouTube, YouTube re-compresses the audio. What the converter receives is that compressed stream: usually AAC at about 128 kbps, sometimes Opus at up to about 160 kbps. No YouTube converter, however it is marketed, can hand you anything better than that, because nothing better exists on YouTube’s servers.

From there you have three kinds of choice on this page:

  • MP3 (320, 256, 192, 128, 96 or 64 kbps): the stream is decoded once and encoded as a constant-bitrate MP3. At 192 kbps and above the extra encoding step adds no audible artefacts; lower rates trade a little fidelity for much smaller files. MP3 is the format every device understands.
  • M4A (original): the AAC audio is copied out of YouTube’s stream with no re-encoding at all. This is the exact sound YouTube plays, bit for bit, in a container that phones, iTunes/Apple Music, VLC and most modern players open without trouble.
  • WAV, FLAC, OGG, OPUS: the same audio in the format your software prefers. WAV and FLAC are ideal for editing; OGG and OPUS are compact and popular on Android, Linux and in games.

Be wary of sites that promise “studio quality” from YouTube. A 320 kbps MP3 or a FLAC file made from a 128 kbps stream is bigger, not richer. We offer them because some players, editors and habits need them, and we tell you what they really are.

Which one should you pick?

You are saving… Pick Why
Music for a car USB stick or an older MP3 player MP3 Some head units and players ignore M4A files
Music for an iPhone or a modern Android phone M4A or MP3 Both play; M4A is the untouched original
A podcast, audiobook or lecture M4A Speech files are often smaller as M4A
A clip to edit in Audacity, GarageBand or a video editor WAV or FLAC No further loss each time you export
Something to share in WhatsApp or Telegram MP3 Opens on every recipient’s phone

How big will the file be?

At 192 kbps an MP3 takes about 1.44 MB per minute of audio. Some quick reference points:

Length MP3 size (approx.)
3-minute song 4.3 MB
10-minute talk 14 MB
45-minute album 65 MB
2-hour mix or lecture 173 MB

M4A files are usually a little smaller than the MP3 because the source stream runs at a lower bitrate.

Tips for cleaner results

Choose the best upload, not the first one. The same song is often on YouTube many times: the official audio, a music video, a lyric video, a fan upload. The official audio or “Topic” channel upload is usually the cleanest — music videos sometimes include intros, dialogue or sound effects that are not on the record. Use the preview to listen to the first seconds before saving.

Watch out for mono uploads. Some older uploads and many phone recordings are mono. Converting them won’t make them stereo; if the preview sounds narrow, look for another upload.

Long videos need a steady connection. Because the MP3 is built while it downloads, a two-hour file over a weak mobile signal may stall. Switch to Wi-Fi for long recordings, and keep the tab open until the download finishes.

Rename as you go. The MP3 is named after the YouTube title, which can be long and full of “(Official Video) [4K]” tags. Renaming the file right after download keeps your music folder tidy and makes the track easier to find later.

Converting on a computer

On Windows, Mac, Linux or a Chromebook, the process is the same: copy the address from the browser bar while the video is open, paste it here, and click Download MP3. The file goes to your Downloads folder. From there you can drag it into a music library — Apple Music on Mac, the Media Player app on Windows, foobar2000, MusicBee, or simply a folder you play with VLC.

If you convert a lot of tracks, keep this page pinned in a tab. Each conversion is independent, so you can paste the next link as soon as the previous download has started.

When conversion fails

Most failures come from the video, not the converter. A private or members-only video cannot be read. A live stream can only be converted after it ends and YouTube publishes the replay. Some videos are blocked in certain countries. Occasionally YouTube slows down requests from busy servers; if you see a “busy” message, wait a minute and press Convert again. If a link keeps failing, try a different upload of the same track.

Converting YouTube to MP3 is fine for audio you own or have permission to keep — your own uploads, Creative Commons recordings, public-domain material, and creators who explicitly allow downloads. Frequently asked questions

How do I convert YouTube to MP3 on my phone?

Open the video in the YouTube app, tap Share and Copy link, open this page in your browser, tap Paste and then Download MP3. The file lands in your Downloads folder (Files › Downloads on iPhone).

Is MP3 or M4A better quality?

M4A is the original YouTube audio with no re-encoding, so in theory it is the cleanest copy. MP3 at 192 kbps sounds the same to almost everyone and plays on more devices, especially older car stereos and MP3 players.

Can I choose 320 kbps?

Yes. 320 kbps is selected by default, and you can also pick 256, 192, 128, 96 or 64 kbps. Keep in mind that YouTube's own audio tops out around 160 kbps, so 192 kbps already holds everything the source contains; 320 simply gives the most headroom.

Is there a length limit?

Long videos work, including multi-hour mixes and lectures. They simply take longer because the file is converted while it downloads. A stable Wi-Fi connection helps for anything over an hour.

Will the MP3 have the song title?

The file name is taken from the video title. Artist, album and cover art tags are not added, because YouTube titles rarely split cleanly into artist and track. A free tag editor like Mp3tag or Kid3 fixes that in seconds.
